About the Fund
The Musicologie Fund is a project from Musicologie devoted to providing need-based scholarships to help families and individuals afford private music lessons. Scholarships are available for students ages 5 – 18 in families making less than 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Scholarships are awarded twice a year and cover 50% of tuition at Musicologie.
We believe music should be available to everyone. At Musicologie we’ve been privileged to serve an amazing group of inspiring musicians of all ages. But there are talented and driven members of our community who find it difficult or impossible to afford private music lessons. The benefits of music lessons are profound and it is our dream to be able to bring lessons to these students and create a larger and more diverse community of musicians.
Musicologie was started in 2014 By Kay and Joseph Barker with the goal of being more than a traditional private lessons studio by connecting students with professional musicians in a unique educational environment. We achieve this:
- By identifying and retaining the best teachers. All our teachers are experienced musicians who are active in the Columbus music scene and passionate about music education. We work hard to make Musicologie the best teaching environment, which includes valuing our teachers’ time and experience. 80% of tuition goes directly to our teaching staff.
- With a recording studio that is integrated into our teaching facility. Students see the studio in action when they come in for their private lessons.
- By hosting recitals, group and ensemble classes, performance opportunities, concert series, roundtables and workshops.
- By nurturing partnerships with organizations whose goals align with ours, like Music Loves Ohio, Tiny House Music Collective, Loog Guitars, Columbus Arts Fest, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and Music Together.
